Our Story
Owner Reggie West was first introduced to stump grinding by his father, Henry, who started his stump grinding company in 2003 in Williamsburg. Henry convinced Reggie that he should grind stumps as a part-time job. In addition to working a full-time job and going to school in the evenings, the first iteration of RW Stump Grinding was born in 2004. After operating for two years with limited success, RW Stump Grinding closed, BUT stump grinding was always considered to be a “Plan B” should the corporate world lose its allure.
In January 2017, after 20 years of working in corporate America, and 16 years with his last company, Reggie decided to go back to his roots, and “Plan B” became “Plan A”. The second iteration of RW Stump Grinding began in May 2017 and has grown into a well-known and well-respected stump grinding company in Central Virginia.
Meet Our Team
Reggie West – Owner/CEO
Reggie was born in Henderson, NC and moved to Williamsburg, VA (technically York County) when he was three. Growing up in a blue-collar family, Reggie learned the importance of working hard, developing trust, and keeping your word. After high school, Reggie attended Virginia Tech earning a degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering. It was there that he met his future wife, Jen. After a few years of working, Reggie went back to school at VCU to earn his MBA. Reggie and Jen have one daughter, Sammi, who keeps them on the move with school, dance, field hockey, and swimming.
As an ISA Certified Arborist®, Reggie has the expertise and dedication to tree care needed to lead the company toward success. With his past experience in customer service and customer-facing positions, Reggie has positioned RW Stump Grinding to be the premier stump removal company in Central Virginia with plans for continued growth.
Reggie’s hobbies include attending Virginia Tech football and basketball games, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Brian Ankiel – Team Leader
Brian started with RW Stump Grinding in January 2022. Brian is a native of Chesterfield County and graduated from Thomas Dale High School in Chester. As Team Leader, Brian is responsible for making sure that every assigned project is completed to each customer’s satisfaction and that all daily objectives are met. In addition, all team leaders are responsible for the training, safety, and actions of their team. Brian’s hobbies include golf and camping.
Colin Neely – Team Leader in Training
Colin started with RW Stump Grinding in July 2022 after leaving a retail position. Colin is a native of Chesterfield County and graduated from Thomas Dale High School in Chester. As Team Leader in Training, Colin is learning all the responsibilities and skills to be an effective Team Leader as the company grows. Colin’s hobbies include camping and auto repair.
